  • 27% of married Americans and 33% of unmarried Americans would consider cosmetic surgery for themselves, now or in the future
  • 67% of white Americans and 72% of non-white Americans say they would not be embarrassed about having cosmetic surgery.
  • Most Americans (71%) said their attitude toward cosmetic surgery had not changed in the last five years, though 20% said it was ‘more favorable.’
  • Out of all age groups, men and women between the ages of 18 and 24 are the most likely to consider plastic surgery for themselves now or in the future (37%).
  • 77% of Americans 65 or older say they would not be embarrassed about having cosmetic surgery

“As the numbers suggest, people in every income bracket, single or married, male or female, view plastic surgery as a reasonable option today,” said Felmont F. Eaves III, MD, President of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). “Taking care of yourself and paying attention to physical appearance is increasingly important to everyone. As both traditional surgical procedures have been improved and refined, and new nonsurgical options have become available, aesthetic plastic surgeons have more to offer to the patients.”

New Wealth, Fresh Face.

Cosmetic and Plastic surgery is very popular and common in this new era. Girls and women have strong desired to seek for the " perfect look." In China, a standard of perfect, beautiful and exquisite woman always has "large, luminous eyes, a delicate nose and a softly sculpted cheekbones." Cosmetic and plastic surgery have become the 4th most popular way for Chinese to spend the discretionary income. Many young girls follow this trend and get plastic surgery in order to become more "sophisticated and pretty."

The three most popular operations for the surgery are:
1. double eyelid, to make eyes appear larger by adding a crease in the eyelid.
2. Raises the bridge of the nose to make it more prominent.
3. reshaping of the jaw to make it narrow and longer.

" My daughter is beautiful, but she wants to look perfect." A mother of a 20-year-old girl whose getting the surgery says. But what is the definition of "being perfect?" To become  same as the others? As cosmetic surgery getting more popular, we should start thinking about the importance of self- identity.
